What is a reed diffuser?

Reed diffusers are commonly misunderstood because they resemble incense sticks. That is why some of my friends and others are trying to ignite the stick.

Reed diffusers are essential oil diffusers that use sticks to absorb the oils and then release the fragrance in small or large spaces.

Some reed sticks will have a tiny hole at both ends, but most of them will have a texture and feel of a “rattan” type of sticks.

How does a reed diffuser function?

The reed diffuser is similar to a mechanical system; the reed sticks and oils are the components that produce the fragrances.

Approximately 3–5 hours after soaking the reed sticks, you can begin to smell the aroma.

How do reed diffuser work step by step?

There are simple steps that provide enough scent for a small room, and there are steps that can be taken to increase the scent in a large room.

Here are the steps for using a reed diffuser:

Verify that items are complete.

Check whether you have these items first.

MAIN INGREDIENTS:

Reed sticks (6 pieces or more)
Small glass or ceramic jar with narrow neck or opening
Reed Diffuser Base and Fragrance Oil with 3:1 ratio

OTHER USEFUL THINGS:

Weighing scale or measuring cup to check the amount of each oil and the total mixture
Glass Container and wooden stick or spoon for mixing the ingredients

Combine the Base and Fragrance Oil.

The next step is to prepare and make your oil mixture. It is recommended to fill up your jar 50% full. Thus, it is quite necessary that you know the capacity of your jar and the total weight of the oil mixture, so you can properly prepare the amount of your base and fragrance oil.

The reed diffuser base oil has to be 75-80% of the total mixture compatible with the 20-25% of your desired fragrance oil.

Mix the ingredients in a glass container using wooden spoon until it is well blended.

Then pour the mixture into the glass or ceramic jar.

Soak the reed sticks for ten to twenty-four hours.

Next, place up to six to eight pieces of reed sticks inside the small jar containing the oils with your preferred fragrance.

If you want a strong scent, let it soak for at least 24 hours; however, 10 hours is sufficient in my experience.

Flip the reed sticks and soak for 10–24 hours.

Now, allow the reed sticks to soak on the opposite side for 10 to 24 hours, depending on how potent you want the scents to be in the room.

Can reed diffusers work in bathrooms?

Standard bathrooms are considered to be small rooms.

And reed diffusers are suitable for small spaces such as bathrooms.

If you use strong smelling essential oils, your bathroom will smell incredibly pleasant.

How long does it take for the reed diffusers to work?

It takes at least four to five hours for the scents from your reed diffuser to reach their full strength.

Additionally, it will depend on the size of your room. A larger room will require a stronger fragrance, and you will likely need to follow the steps for flipping and soaking your reed sticks.

However, in smaller rooms, such as the bathrooms I described above, it may take just a little bit of time before the fragrance from the diffuser can be felt.

How often should you flip the reed sticks?

There is no strict rule for flipping reed sticks. You can flip the reed sticks just once a week.

Depending on the strength of the oils you are using, it can occur that you may only flip the reed sticks once a month.

How often should you replace your reed sticks?

When you notice that your oils are disappearing, you can remove the reed sticks and either purchase a new reed diffuser or make one yourself.

How should you care for your reed diffusers?

It is absolutely essential that you maintain clean reed diffusers. Ensure that no dirt is accumulating inside the glass jar.
