Why wouldn’t I want a pleasant aroma of essential oils to fill my home while I sleep? It’s the nicest feeling in the world; it keeps me and my family calm while also relieving tension.
So, can you sleep with an essential oil or aromatherapy diffuser on? Yes, most oil diffusers have an auto shut off feature, similar to our home diffusers, which have timers of 60, 120, and 180 minutes. This way, you won’t have to get out of bed in the middle of the night to turn it off.
What happens if you leave a diffuser on? Because of its safety features, the diffuser will automatically turn off regardless of the initial configuration. Oil diffusers are equipped with both a water level sensor or a timer that may be set to turn off. A diffuser will most likely shut itself off on its own if I leave it on all the time. This means I don’t have to worry about it running out of water or getting too hot.

It can also fully depend on three factors: the sort of equipment you have, the type of oils you use, and how much strength of smell you want to disperse. A decent rule of thumb is to use 2 to 3 drops of essential oils per 100 ml of water.
When I’ve asked this same question to three of the most well-known aromatherapy companies, they all say the same thing: it depends on how strong you want it to be. The only time you need to use a certain number of drops is when you are trying to make a new combination of scents.
From what I’ve learned about essential oils in the past, some of them can be too strong for us. The smell can last for longer than you want.Also, the citrus essential oils don’t smell as strong as other oils do.

As a general guideline, I stick to this table; however, if you want to compare the size of the bottle, for example, a 5 ml and 1 ml essential oil bottle, I will stick to 2-3 drops regardless of the size of the diffuser you have.
